Customer Review: Restaurant-quality waffles as long as you use a good batter

When my boyfriend and I purchased this waffle maker over two years ago we were not expecting to get much use out of it. However, we surprised ourselves as years later it is one of our favorite appliances.
Overall this is a great product that is durable and easy to clean. Although we have had it for a couple of years and use it a lot it still looks brand new. We also haven't had any issues with loss of heat over time or inconsistent heat. We're still getting as great of results as the first day we got it.
One of the things my boyfriend appreciates about this waffle is how fool proof it is. Even though he does not do much cooking outside of making waffles the handy measuring cup and timer makes it such that there isn't much guesswork. There are also many belgian waffle mixes out on the market now so if making a homemade batter isn't your thing it is possible to take shortcuts. Thus, we've found we can whip up great waffles even when we're pressed for time.
That said, when it comes to getting crispy on the outside & light on the inside waffles we've found that it's the batter, not the maker, that's key. We've had the most success with homemade yeasted batters. They are require more time, but are worth it in the flavor and texture. We've also had great success using this waffle maker to make low fat waffles, whole grain waffles, chocolate waffles, and other countless varieties. However, those with less fat tend to get a little less crispy on the outside. I mention this because if you're having trouble with the texture it may be the recipe and not the maker so I recommend trying out more recipe variations before proclaiming your verdict.
Overall this is a great product. It may seem like a novelty item but with the variety of waffle recipes and mixes on the market we've found that we've been able to make countless varieties and not get bored. I expect this product to last for years to come but am sure that if it ever dies we will be buying another.
